David R. Kaplunov (Russia)

Professor, D.Sc. (Eng.), Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Honored Master of Science and Engineering of the Russian Federation, a winner of prizes awarded by the USSR Council of Ministers, the Government of the Russian Federation, the President of the Russian Federation; a winner of the Melnikov prize awarded by the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Agoshkov prize by the Mining Academy; a holder of the Miner’s Glory Medal, degrees I, II, III. 

Professor Kaplunov is a renowned researcher specializing in the engineering and development of underground ore mines. His career as a researcher, teacher and engineer spanning over 50 years has been a great contribution to the theory of underground mining projecting. The particular subjects of his work include optimization of mine capacity during revamping, comprehensive development technology aimed at the stable quality of material, and combined geotechnology. Today, Professor Kaplunov is leading the research undertaken by the Institute of Comprehensive Exploitation of Mineral Resources of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Professor Kaplunov has authored more than 200 papers, such as monographs, textbooks, certificates of authorship and patents, which cover a wide range of subjects related to the development of mineral resources.
