Abstract
Problem Statement (Relevance). The service properties of cast products determine their service life under operating conditions. Wear resistance is primarily affected by the chemical composition, as well as by the solidification conditions of the product. Objectives. The research is aimed at investigating the effect of the Cr–N complex on the service properties of high-manganese steel. Methods Applied. The research object is high-manganese steel alloyed with the Cr–N complex and solidified in a casting mold at different cooling rates. The structure and properties have been studied using experimental castings in the as-cast condition and after heat treatment. The microstructural parameters of the experimental steels have been evaluated using optical and electron microscopy. Wear resistance has been assessed using the coefficients of abrasive and impact-abrasive wear resistance in accordance with GOST 23.208-79 and GOST 23.207-79. Originality. Concentration ranges of chromium and nitrogen have been determined at which the coefficients of abrasive and impact-abrasive wear resistance reach their maximum values. Results. The patterns of the effect of melt cooling rate in combination with chromium and nitrogen on the coefficients of abrasive and impact-abrasive wear resistance, as well as on changes in the quantitative characteristics of the carbide phase, have been identified. The effect of these factors on the austenite grain anisotropy coefficient, which has a significant influence on the mechanical and service properties of castings, has been determined. The effect of heat treatment on the chemical composition of the alloy and surface decarburization of the experimental castings, as well as on the quantitative characteristics of the microstructure, has been determined. Practical Relevance. Recommendations are formulated for the use of the Cr–N complex as an alloying addition to Hadfield steel in order to obtain specified performance characteristics.
