Abstract
Problem statement (Relevance). The production of stainless steel products involves a significant number of technological operations and high production costs. 20Kh13 stainless steel exhibits moderate corrosion resistance and hardness, as well as satisfactory heat resistance up to 500°C. Its use in various industrial sectors requires heat treatment operations aimed at achieving the required material properties. However, obtaining high strength characteristics in this steel grade is challenging. These aspects are particularly important for the production of stainless steel grades in Russia due to the high share of imported products. Objectives. The research is aimed at evaluation of the effect of velocity asymmetry on the strength characteristics of 20Kh13 stainless steel. Methods Applied. Hot asymmetric rolling of 20Kh13 steel has been performed on a unique industrial-laboratory 400 rolling mill at the Zhilyaev Laboratory of Mechanics of Gradient Nanomaterials, Nosov Magnitogorsk State Technical University. The chemical composition of 20Kh13 steel complies with GOST 5632-2014. The billets have been heated prior to rolling in a PL2 electric furnace. The specimen geometry has been measured using a micrometer in accordance with GOST 6507. Longitudinal specimens for tensile testing on a Shimadzu Servopulser U-series testing machine have been prepared in accordance with GOST 1497. Results. As the asymmetry coefficient increased from 1.0 to 1.7, the relative reduction increased from 55.3% to 64.4%, while the force decreased by 25% and the strength characteristics increased by at least 20%. The resulting level of technological ductility makes it possible to perform asymmetric rolling at a higher asymmetry coefficient. Practical Relevance. The use of high-temperature tempering has resulted in a less pronounced decrease in the strength characteristics of specimens after asymmetric rolling compared with symmetric rolling. These effects indicate the possibility of reducing the number of technological operations in the production of 20Kh13 stainless steel products by applying asymmetric deformation.
