Sergey E. Gavrishev (Russia)

Professor, D. Sc. (Eng.), Head of the Department of Mining, Director of the Institute of Mining Engineering and Transport at NMSTU.

Professor Gavrishev was awarded a grant by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science under the 2005 programme of Promoting Research in Higher Education. He is an editorial board member at a number of scientific journals and an editor of the following collections of research papers: ‘Comprehensive Exploitation of Mineral Deposits’, 2012; ‘Mining and Geological Survey’, 2013. He is a member of the organizing committee of the 21st Century Opencast Mining International Conference.

Professor Gavrishev is well-known in the scientific world of mining. He is a leader of research in the spheres of improved development of stripping schemes and ways of arranging working areas in pits in opencast and combined mining geo-technologies; preparation and utilization of industrial georesources. The above scientific developments are implemented through grants by the Russian Federation, the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, federal target programmes and through major contracts with Russian companies such as ROSGEO Research & Production Company, CHUK JSC and MMK OJSC.

Professor Gavrishev chairs the NMSTU Dissertation Board D212.111.02 and acts as permanent official opponent for the dissertations for D. Sc. (Eng.) and Ph.D. degrees, in the dissertation boards of mining universities and research institutes of Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk and Almaty. He has been supervisor to twelve postgraduate students who undertook research in such areas as Geo-technology (Underground, Opencast and Construction Geo-technology) 25.00.22, Management in the Mining Industry 05.02.22, and Fundamentals of Mining Systems Designing 25.00.21, and who were all awarded PhD degrees.

Professor Gavrishev has authored more than 180 scientific and educational papers, including 5 monographs and 6 textbooks.

He has been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science (2004), a badge of rank for the title of Honored Worker of the Russian Higher Professional Education No. 24897 (2007), and a prize for workers of education by the Governor of Chelyabinsk Region (2013).
